Video Production Final

This was an amazing semester filled with entertainment. We focused on three projects including our High School Trailer, Short Film, and Music Video.

High School Trailer

This project was to choose a movie trailer that was based in a high school and re create it shot for shot. My group and I choose the A-List. In total this project took about 3 weeks to shoot and edit. We faced some challenges with sound and actors but we persevered. I learned that it is important to communicate with your group and help everyone along the way. If I were to do this again I would have actually used actors. Overall this video is not my best work but was still fun to make.
Short Film

This project was to take one of our group members treatments and turn it into a 5-10 minute short film. Our treatment was a horror comedy based off of Scooby Do. This project only took our group 2 weeks because we were able to shoot this is 1 day. We faced some challenges editing because we forgot a couple shots here and there but we learned to be more prepared. If I were to do this again I would have changed nothing my group and I had a blast filming this. Overall this was probably my favorite video I have ever made.
Music Video

This project was to be inspired by a song and re-make the music video. My group and I choose 50 Ways To Say Goodby by Train. This project took us about 3 weeks. We definitely faced challenges because we were originally going to do a different song but changed it half way. W worked together as a group and got it done together. My overall opine is that our actor did a very good job and I liked the way the final edit turned out.

Reflection

This year I furthered my knowledge in the 6 shot system and my camera work. I also learned a lot about group projects, project management, and leadership skills.

I used my time effectively in class whether it was collaborating in my group or filming. I would stay productive by focusing on what the task at hand was. I never had spare time because you can always add effects or sound to a video. This class took up some outside time with my group to film but I also worked on scripting and my treatment.

Some of my strengths are shooting the actual video I was the cinematographer in 2 our of 3 films. I need some improvement on editing but this worked out because w all have different rooms in a group project.

I loved the people most this semester because no matter what group I was in I always had a good time. I would change anything differently I loved the way we watched videos and the projects at hand. One goal I am setting for next year is to take my time and put all effort into the video I am creating. A big thanks to Mrs. Smith for making this a very enjoyable class I will miss you dearly next year!!

Graphic Design Reflection

As a student in e-Communication we were taught to focus of the following 5 areas-

Technology
We have been learning technological skills all year. We are constantly on the Macs learning and exploring Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. This is important for taking a creative vision and using technology to make it happen. I faced challenges such as wanting to use inspiration from something I saw but could not figure out how to do it. I will use these skills for years to come for fonts, logos, and cute graphics.

Collaboration
This program has brought out a side of me that loves to work with everyone. I loved having projects and having a collaboration partner. This is important to help others and have others help you as well. I have learned how important it is to have collaboration skills or else your point of view and vision will not get across. We also collaborated in a group setting giving critiques. This helped a lot with the final outlook of projects.

Communication
Communication is not only important with group members but also with your teacher. This is a skill I will use for the rest of my life in my future career. Im glad how much this word was used in this program throughout the year. You have to communicate to get things done and get hep.

Project Management
Having a deadline is a big park of what we were taught. Having a real client want you to re-brand there business is a big deal. The client will want it by a certain date and managing your time is extremely important. This does mean coming in before or after school to meet deadlines.

Leadership
Taking part in group activities in Graphic Design didn't happen very often and I wish it did. Having someone to help you along the way would have been a big asset to our final projects. But we can take leadership into our own hands and help others around you that may be struggling.

Projects

Strengths And Weaknesses
My greatest strengths were using fonts and color to effectively get my point across. I also can make a strong logo and work Illustrator very effectively. Some weaknesses I have are in Photoshop. I have a hard time mocking things up and making them look realistic.
Future
I have a computer at home and will continue to make graphics and logos for fun. I will also take away the 5 skills. If I could change some things it would be maybe do at least one group project. I loved all of my classmates and would want to collaborate on a big project with them. My future is very bright with many options because of graphic design.

Conclusion
In conclusion this program has taught me a lot this past semester. I have grown so much not only in my work but in myself. I have learned how to communicate, help others, and take intuitive. When I first stepped into the graphic design room I had not idea how to use Adobe illustrator or Adobe Photoshop. With the help and guidance of my teacher I can now say I can confidently use them everyday.

High School Trailer

This assignment was to frame for frame, shot by shot, recreate a high school movie trailer. In my group of three we first started out our process by finding a good trailer to recreate. After a lot of deliberation we decided on the A-list. After this we created our story board and script using screenshots from the trailer. Creating a cast list was the hardest part but we learned to use the problems along the way and just go with it. If I were to do this differently I wish we created each scene more carefully if we had more time outside of school together as a group. But I liked our actors and had fun. This was a very hard experience with a lot of stress but it will make me a better collaborator even with tough groups.

Marks and Symbols

Logos are one of the most important things as a company to communicate there brand to viewers. Symbols are small pictures without type or text.  A logo is the words that identify the brand. Putting these together making a combination mark creates a relationship for the brand. A company can use just a mark or just a logo on products or they can be used together.

Combination Mark

Symbols are a quick picture that viewers can easily remember the "face" of the brand.

Symbols must flow and attract others to it.

Symbols mostly use one color to maintain syplicity and not overwhelm the final combination mark.

The most important thing I learned is that both can be used separately and together but still maintains the same feel as the brand. This will be very valuable to me during my graphic design future making logos for clients.

Original Music Video

This video was an amazing story with a funny scenery. For our video we also used the grocery store as our main place to shoot at. The creator did a great job using the girlfriend in different places. The creator also used a mariachi band in the store which was amazing and a great asset to the video. There video could have improved quality looks like it was shot on a bad camera. We were very inspired from this video and from the actors emotions. We are going to try to recreate it as best we can.

Posters

In todays economy posters play a role in changing the future. Posters consist of colors, fonts, and other visuals. A poster gives information  and illustrates information. Posters inform, simulate, activate, mobilize, expound, provoke, motivate, and convince.

When making a poster there are certain laws to follow.

Step 1:The poster must be easy to read, understandable, and stick to the memory of the reader.

Step 2:Having significant lettering with the graphics, lettering should help to give out information quickly and simply.

Step 3:The object of a poster needs to be clear and be expressed by significant shapes, and colors. All these elements must flow together.

Step 4: This law states that color can emphasize the object of social, economic, political, and cultural campaigns. Color can make a poster pleasing and make all elements flow.

I learned that if all elements of the poster does not flow together the viewer can forget and disregard all the information on the poster. A good poster s well organized, layed out well, and have a good color scheme.

Semester 1 Video Final

1 in 2000
This project was to use a student in the class, interview them about a story they had and make a video over it. This video took about a week. The challenges I faced were getting my voiceovers to sound smooth and fluent. Since this was only our second project I learned a lot about the importance of voiceovers, the 6 shot system and working with other people. Some feedback I was given was that the lighting was great but I should trim lots of shots down. In my re edit I made everything tight and work well together. This was one of my first videos so its not my best but I learned a lot.

Feature Story 2
This project was a feature story about an organization. I choose my volleyball club, South Kc. In total this video took about 2 weeks to film and edit. A challenges I faced was my go pro was not working within my first volleyball practice and had to get it working for my next upcoming practice. Along the way I learned you can make an amazing video with not only a regular camera but also a go pro, which I will definitely be using in the future. Some feedback I was given was when I introduced the players in my voiceover I should put a shot of them to introduce them. In my re edit this is exactly what I did. This is one of my favorite videos I've ever produced and loved the way it turned out and so did my teammates.

In class I used my time very wisely, using every second I could to improve my video. When I thought I was done I would ask others to watch my video and critic me so I could improve my project. Outside of school was a lot of calibration and filming, I spent at least 10 hours over this semester filming and working outside school.

My strengths in making videos are definitely editing, collaborating, and filming lots of different and interesting shots. I maximize these strengths by using my talent in every video. My weaknesses in video are my voiceovers. To improve I need to work with my talking and editing skills.

What I liked most about this semester is being able to do our videos about whatever we wanted and leaving a lot of room for creative freedom. I wouldn't change anything differently! My overall taking from this class was skills using a new kind of camera, teamwork skills, and my love for video. One goal for next semester is to give 100 percent into every video I make.
